Offical iPhone instant messaging will come soon?

Aidan Malley says on AppleInsider: “Apple has set the groundwork for instant messaging on the iPhone and other touchscreen devices with an application for a patent on a universal interface for real-time text chat services.”

Published in March, the USPTO filing describes an interface similar to the existing SMS (Short Messaging Service) text messaging interface for the iPhone, but with key changes.

Apple’s current chat format for SMS (left) and the patent’s alternate version (right).

Examples of composing a new message (left) or viewing chat history (right), both of which are found in existing iPhone software.

You can read the full article on the AppleInsider.

iphonedebug: iPhone JavaScript debug console

The iPhone Debug Consle is meant to give greater visibility and interactivity on your iPhone/iPod Touch while doing development. Jon Brisbin, the project ower say:

“I grew frustrated having to go through the ‘include console.log statement then reload’ method of debugging. I wanted something similar to Firebug’s fantastic console and debugger.

In trying to find something that would fit my needs, I came across Joe Hewitt’s iPhone/Firebug integration, but I wanted something more robust and that worked without firebug and requiring “console.log” in the desktop browser. Since the COMET support in Jetty is quite good, and given that I’m a Java programmer, not a Python one, I decided to just write my own and offer it up to the community. I think it will be helpful to those getting very frustrated with debugging your Ajax apps on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

You can find download and install tutorial at iphonedebug’s project home.

Unlocked 3G iPhone to Launch in Italy?

Lastest rumor? Mac Rumors says:”

Repubblica.it reports that Telecom Italia will be launching the iPhone in Italy in the next few weeks for sale by the summer.

The new model is said to be based on 3G (UMTS) technology and will be sold originally through Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM). The 3G iPhone, however, will not be locked to any provider, but TIM will have the inital advantage with a few month lead time over other carriers.”

According to MacRumors reader grigio, the main points are as follows:

1) Direct introduction of UMTS-capable 3G iPhones on the Italian market, skipping the current 2G version.
2) No revenue sharing, instead an higher selling price.
3) No permanent exclusive distribution by a single operator. Instead, TIM will be given the right to distribute the iPhone with some months of advance with respect to its UMTS competitors.

Apple has been rumored to be launching the 3G iPhone in the coming months, maybe at WWDC 2008. Repubblica is a well respected publication in Italy.

Winpwn 0.99.1.8 beta realeased!

Winpwn is windows version of PwnageTool, the current beta version only can be used with iPhone 1.1.4 firmware. Before you use it, please read following realease information:

“This is winpwn-0.99.1.8BETA. I have disabled 2.0+ support since it’s still buggy. Hopefully with people beta testing i will get all
the bugs worked out within a few days and you will get a final release including 2.0+ support. You WILL be able to flash
custom ipsw’s made with mac pwnage if you wish to upgrade to 2.0 and can’t wait for final winpwn. For now i have also disabled most
of the custom options including the applications (installer is still there) and the unlock base band features. Once i’m happy it’s stable i will enable those features for testing. I will post a more detailed breakdown of how it works (YES THAT IS QEMU) and why i choose to
use qemu. You will require the iTunesMobileDevice.dll and you will have to put it inside the winpwn program files dir.
iBooter support has been disabled since i haven’t tested it yet. So you are stuck with iTunes for beta release. NOTE: YOU MAY NEED TO USE REGULAR RECOVERY MODE MANUALLY IF WINPWN DOESNT DO IT ITSELF.”

Download Winpwn for offical site:

SwirlyMMS v1.0 is in the pipe…

The Developers form SwirlySpace.com announce SwirlyMMS, the MMS application for iPhone, will realease soon.

“We will bring you an easy-to-use user-interface, inspired by the mail application, which allows you to navigate through your received and sent multi-media messages.

Speaking of multi-media, in this release you will not be limited to send and receive images - you will be able to send and receive images, text, audio and video.

You will be able to send and receive messages containing multiple multi-media parts. For example you can send an image together with a long text in the same message.

We will provide a built-in media viewer so that you can easily view your messages from within SwirlyMMS.

You can easily reply to, or forward the message and you will be able to select multiple recipients.

You will be able to save a multi-media item to a file of your choice.

To send a photo, you will be able to select it, not only from your camera roll but also from your synched photo library or use the built-in file browser to pick any file.

Also, you will be able to take a photo with the camera from within SwirlyMMS and send it right away.

To help you configure the application with the MMS settings, we have developed a package which handles settings delivered over-the-air!

So, you may think that all this sounds pretty good, but of course you still wonder: when will a version that includes all these features be released? And the answer on that is: hopefully within, hmmm… maybe three-four weeks.”

Great Works! Thanks, Tommy & Mats!
